How and where do I start? Rodie is my heart dog, my once in a lifetime dog, who makes all my dreams come true! He’s totally my best friend. He reads my mind, no words are needed………….

I could so easily write a book about this incredible companion!!!

rodietunnel Rodie arrived in my life Memorial Day weekend, May 1996. I had researched hard, looking far and wide, for a pup from strong working lines. His sire, Ace, “WTCH Crown Point Ace of Spades PATDcs RTDcs TDI DNA-CP”, and maternal grandsire, Tide, “ HOF sire #139 WTCH Crown Point Crimson Tide PATDcs RTDcs”, were number 1 and 2 stock dogs for the past few years in ASCA. Ace earned ASCA 1998 National Champion High Combined Stockdog, and won ASCA 2001 National Finals sheep at 11 years old!

Rodie’s breeder, Kaye Harris, had bred Ace to Tide daughters, and Tide to Ace daughters for numerous years. The pups were exceptional, with very few health concerns, and outstanding “drive” and “heart”. These two words describe Rodie best!!!!

Rodie has more drive than any dog I have ever met. He has NO issues, and I can’t think of one thing he has ever been afraid of. He always ran best in 100 degree weather, or did his best obedience performances with storms raging just outside the open barn door, lightening and all! Rodie never stresses.

Rodie ran agility runs with many other handlers, 16 I can count off-hand, and he always gave each and every one his very best!We entered our first obedience trial when Rodie was 11 months old. By the time he reached age two, Rodie and I earned 4 CD’s, 3 CDX’s, and 21 open obedience legs. That summer, Rodie won the WI State Fair “Heel Down”, competing against 77 dogs! Rodie loved obedience as it was his job.

Rodie also did therapy work, being certified with TDI for 6 years. He would hold anything in his mouth, flowers, toys, Easter baskets and deliver them. He was very gentle with the older folk.

Rodie did flyball, earning his Championship in two trials.

rodiejanesville He attended numerous herding seminars, and entered and qualified at an ASCA herding trial, and I knew he was way too much dog for a novice handler! We were so good as a team at all the other performance events, I decided to not pursue stock. After Rodie turned two years old, we started competing in agility trials. He did awesome, and his fans would always stop and watch his runs!!! Numerous judges told me what an incredible athlete I had in Rodie!
Rodie often earned placements in the ASCA and USASA stats in obedience and agility. His accomplishments include:

  • ASCA 1997 Novice Obedience Top 30
  • #25 Score 577
  • ASCA 1998 Open Obedience Top 20
  • #18 Score 584
  • USASA 1998 Obedience Top Ten
  • 8th Place Open A Score 579.5
  • USASA 1998 Agility Top Ten
  • 3rd Place Novice B Standard Score 309
  • USASA 1999 Agility Top Ten
  • 10th Place Open JWW Score 296
  • USASA 1999 Agility Top Ten
  • 4th Place Open Standard Score 303

Rodie sired 5 litters, and had to have an “emergency” neuter due to a severe prostate infection when he was 6 years old.

Rodie’s wonderful kids and their incredible owners earned Rodie ASCA HOF sire #170, and USASA ROM-P I, and ROM-P II sire awards.

I am lucky enough to own Rodie’s daughter from his first litter, Scamper, and her daughter, Shamie. I also have Buster, his son from his second litter, and his daughter, Hooey. His children have accomplished so much, earning championships in all venues, and carrying on Rodie’s tradition!!! I am so proud of them all.
Because of Rodie, I am truly blessed with so many good friends, near and far!My Buster boy, has passed on all of these traits to his kids, as have Rodie’s other sons and daughters.

Scamp’s daughter Shamie is Rodie’s female “grand”clone! She has his drive, heart, incredible ego and confidence, and all his athletic build. She also is as hard to live with as Rodie if not exercised properly!

Buster, Scamp, and Hooey are much easier to live with. Buster is one of Rodie’s more serious sons when working and has Rodie’s drive. Yet, Buster is less intense to live with, and such a snuggler! Buster has inherited all Rodie’s toy/ball drive and then some!!!!!

rodeoage11 Rodie has gone in and out of retirement many times. He’s way too much fun to quit running!!!   At the age of 11, he finished his U-ACH UKC Agility Championship in two days. Rodie also earned High in Trial and High Combined. I am so very proud of my old red dog. He STILL runs fast and clean!Rodie enjoys good health, runs full speed thru the house as he did as a youngster, (why walk when you can run?), and still is “leader” of the pack. His sire and numerous grandparents lived to 16 years plus, and I expect Rodie will too!

I treasure every day spent with Rodie. I take care of the other dogs, and my cats, and Rodie has always taken care of me!

Rodie’s “heart” will live on in his kids and grandkids………………

My once in a lifetime dog, my heart and soul, you gave me it all……….4/9/96-10/9/11 “rock on red dog, run fast and clean…..until we meet again
