Feather

Ad Astra Dally with Ledoux “Feather”
(November 18, 2003 – October 6, 2004)

Feather, or Feddie as I called her, was very special. She was the last born and smallest in a litter of seven pups. From the very beginning she showed exceptional determination. Feddie was little, but she was a pistol. Even against her bigger and stronger littermate brothers, she always held her own. Feddie came from a long line of some of the finest working Aussies, so it was in her blood not to give up.

At a few weeks of age it was noticed that Feather had an injury of some sort to one hind leg. She had a long, difficult birth and was diagnosed by a specialist that she had an immature nerve. Her breeders, Mark and Anne, gaver her regular therapeutic treatments and she improved. I was very happy to welcome Feddie to my family, and Mark and Anne knew I would give her all the time, patience, and care needed to overcome this problem. All my dogs loved her, and Buster, Scamper, and Shamie became her best friends. Even my hellion, Shamie was always ever-so-gentle with her little sister.

Unfortunately, as Feddie matured, her limitations became worse. It became apparent that she suffered from neurological issues due to oxygen deprivation during her birth. At ten months of age, I finally made the difficult and heart breaking decision to let Feddie go. Mark and Anne gave me their support and blessings. Feather was born with the expectation to be a working Aussie and a stock dog, but she ultimately was unable to be a healthy companion dog.

Feddie was always the sweetest, most loving, and brave little Aussie. She gave all that she had to give! I cherish the time I was blessed with my special “peanut”. I enjoy and cheer for all the accomplishments of her littermates as they have turned out to be an awesome group of dogs.

It’s not always the number of years with a loved one, but the quality of time spent that means the most. Feddie will always have a BIG piece of my heart.
